We're already deep into what's become commonly known as Black November, in case you haven't noticed shop window promotions, the constant flurry of "last chance" emails, and ads popping up everywhere. Where Did Black Friday Come From?
Although it feels like a modern invention, Black Friday's been around for decades. First used in the United States back in the 1960s, the term originally appeared the day after Thanksgiving to describe the huge traffic jams and crowded streets as shoppers rushed to start their Christmas buying. Retailers used it to launch major sales and, over time, the day became known as the unofficial start of the festive shopping season.
It's now grown into a global event and is no longer just one day. Retailers spread their deals across a full week or, in many cases, the entire month, which is why "Black November" is now commonplace.
